Aurora Cantu began her career in radio in 1977, working at the San Antonio College station as operations manager, news announcer and DJ until 1980. For 2 years during that time, she also worked in news at KTSA-KTFM and as a jock at KBOP in Pleasanton. This diversity at the very start would become a professional standard for Aurora, who always did a variety of jobs wherever she worked.
After earning an Associate Degree in RTF Applied Science at SAC, she attended the University of Texas at Austin, earning a BS in Radio, TV, Film, while working in Austin radio in news, traffic, and production. In 1984, she returned to KTSA-KTFM as Continuity Director, then moved to Magic 105 as Traffic Manager and weekend jock.
In 1986, Aurora did contract traffic work for 4 stations while again working as a part-time DJ weekends in Austin. Then she joined KISS-FM, San Antonio, as Traffic Manager and part-time weekend jock. She then moved to San Diego returning to Texas in 1990 to work for ASCAP in their San Antonio office for 4 years. After a couple of years in Houston and in Victoria radio she came back to San Antonio again, this time to join KCYY-KKYX as an Account Executive.
In 1996, Aurora joined Cox Radio as Copywriter and Production Assistant for 3 stations, KISS, KSMG, and KLUP. She went back to Houston and then returned to San Antonio in 2001 as Public Affairs Director for KZEP. A year later, she joined Natural Broadcast Systems utilizing her radio traffic expertise to train customers on a new traffic and billing program.
From 2008 to 2015, Aurora continued to work either in radio or related fields in traffic, sales, board operator, and production. To put it in a nutshell, it was a job in radio broadcasting, Aurora was willing and more than able to do it. Her resume is a testament to her dedication to and love of radio broadcasting, both on-the-air and behind the mike.
