Ben Reed

Ben Reed started his career in radio broadcasting back in 1977 as an on-air talent. In 1978 he entered the University of Alabama and began working as on-air talent and Program Director at WUAL Radio.  During his time in school, he also worked in Birmingham as an on-air talent at WAPI AM/FM. In early 1982 he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and moved to his hometown of Gadsden, Alabama, where he was afternoon drive personality and account manager for WGAD Radio.

Later that year Ben moved back to Birmingham to join KATZ Broadcasting as an Account Manager. KATZ Broadcasting would later become New City Communications and ultimately the Cox Media Group. Ben moved through each of these transitions with the company holding various positions from Local Sales Manager to General Sales Manager, VP Market Manager, Regional Vice-President and Group Vice President.

In 2009 Ben was named Group Vice President of Cox Media Group where he oversaw the Atlanta, Birmingham, Houston, San Antonio, and Tulsa radio markets as well as the Austin American Statesman newspaper. In 2012 he became Vice President and Market Manager for the Cox Media Atlanta Radio Group.

 Since 2014 Ben Reed has been Vice President and Market Manager for Cox Media’s San Antonio Radio Group. In this role, he is responsible for all content and sales for award-winning radio stations KONO AM and FM, KKYX, KSMG, KTKX, KISS and 106-7 The Eagle.

Ben was an early key player in the launch of one of San Antonio’s legendary format sign-on stations, KCYY, Y100. The station is now a heritage country format icon in San Antonio and South Texas.

Ben has served on the Board of Directors for the Country Music Association, as chairman and board member for the Make-A-Wish Foundation for Central and South Texas, and on numerous local and national broadcast committees.
